I STAND ALONE

SCREENED ON MAY, 16th 1998

Hard to shoot for financial reasons, it's partly thanks to stylist Agnès B. that I Stand Alone has been finished, after a shooting lasting five years. If it split a lot of people, both from critics and average viewers, it quickly became a cult movie, especially in Japan where it has been made as a manga by Robot Okuda. A cut scene became the shortfilm Intoxication (1998) starring Stéphane Drouot who performs with Philippe Nahon at the beginning of Irreversible.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who met Gaspar Noé during a screening of Carne made a tribute to him in Amélie. In a scene, Amélie (Audrey Tautou) thinks that Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz) is taken as an hostage by three people. One of the gun is the one the Butcher use.

As for the two other guns, they were used in La Haine (1995, Mathieu Kassovitz) starring Philippe Nahon (the Butcher) as a policeman and Dobermann (1997, Jan Kounen) starring Vincent Cassel, Monica Bellucci but also with a cameo from Gaspar Noé.

Worth noting that Jean-Pierre Jeunet casted Frankie Pain (The Butcher's wife) after he discovered her in Carne : thus she plays in The City of Lost Children, Amélie, or A very long engagement.
